EDUCATION COMMISSION OF THE STATES
The development of this database was funded in large part by a grant(R215UO20019) from the Office of Innovation and Improvement, U.S. Department of Education. The database reflects verification of ENACTED STATE POLICY, whether statute, rule, regulation or formal directive. The database does not include planned and implemented programs approved by the U.S. Department as required by No Child Left Behind, but that are not yet reflected in final state policy.

WELCOME TO THE EDUCATION COMMISSION OF THE STATES (ECS) NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND (NCLB) DATABASE.
This site provides policymakers, staff and the public with a one-stop shop for learning the day-to-day status of how state policies match up with NCLB requirements. Additional resources, attached by icon and through links to requirements and/or views when available, provide detailed information that completes the picture.

This database offers information in four basic forms:
  • National Grid

  • Provides status of all requirements across 50 states and the District of Columbia.
  • 50-State Map

  • Provides status of one requirement across the nation.
  • State status

  • Provides status and relevant comments for individual states across all requirements.
  • State comparisons

  • Provides status and relevant comments for up to five states at a time.
The development of this database was initially funded in large part by a grant (R215UO20019) from the Office of Innovation and Improvement, U.S. Department of Education, with ECS taking over sole funding and maintenance since January 1, 2004. Information contained within the database and the determinations made on the site are those of ECS alone. They do not reflect judgments upon or recommendations to individual states, nor do they imply ECS certification of individual state activity. Likewise, the information and determinations do not imply certification or approval of the U.S. Department of Education.
